Unlike the way it sounds, supercilious does not mean "super silly". Instead, it actually means "haughtily disdainful or contemptuous". Come to think of it, those are some cool words too!
fun fact: it comes from the latin for "eyebrow," supercilium, (via the notion of raising the eyebrow to express pride).
A good way to define this word is "super snobby." Their super-snobby superciliousness made them seem super silly.
